Organizing and Flying an ASLT Digital Poker Run

An ASLT Digital Poker Run eliminates the logistical headache of stationing volunteers at remote airfields to manually distribute playing cards. The platform automatically tracks aircraft via GPS, checks airspace boundaries against virtual penalty zones, and processes card dealing upon geofence triggers.

Organizer Setup Process

  1. Design your Course: Use the ASLT web management portal to draw circle geofences over your destination airports.
  2. Add Strategic Challenges (Optional): Layer polygon “Penalty Zones” between airfields. You can intentionally position an “Extra Card Gate” guarded by tight tactical airspace corridors to force pilots into real-time risk-vs-reward decisions.
  3. Print your Hangar Materials: Click “Generate Hangar Flyer” on your event dashboard. Print the page containing your custom event registration QR code and flight order matrix, then mount it prominently on the clubhouse or hangar wall.
  4. Manual Card Management (Optional): If a pilot misses a collection zone due to tracking issues or if you need to correct a hand manually, you can adjust cards directly. In the Navigation Task management view, click the Actions icon next to any contestant and select Playing Cards to add or remove specific cards from their deck.

Pilot Quick-Start Checklist

1. Pre-Flight Setup (Do this at home)

  • Download the App: Ensure you have the Air Sports Live Tracking (ASLT) app installed on your iOS or Android device.
  • Log In: Open the app and log into your user profile.
  • Verify Subscription: Confirm your pilot tracking subscription is current (€3.69/month or €8.99/year).

Note: ASLT is a true non-profit, open-source platform backed by national flying federations. 100% of app subscriptions directly fund ongoing mobile software engineering, security updates, and high-precision telemetry infrastructure.

2. Before Engine Start (At the Hangar Wall)

  • Scan to Register: Locate the printed flyer on the hangar wall, scan the QR code with your smartphone, input your aircraft registration/tail number, and confirm.
  • Initialize Payload: Once the web page confirms registration, close your mobile browser and open your native ASLT Mobile App manually. Your pre-scheduled Poker Run flight will automatically be sitting active on your main dashboard.
  • Check Status: Verify your device battery level (connect to cockpit power if available) and ensure location services/GPS permissions are fully enabled.

3. Taxiing & Takeoff

  • Initiate Tracking: Right before pulling out of your parking box or beginning your taxi checklist, press the prominent “Start Tracking” button inside the app UI.
  • Secure Placement: Mount the mobile device firmly on your glare shield or kneeboard with an uncompromised line-of-sight to the sky for maximum GPS satellite geometry performance.
  • Background Execution: You can turn the device display off to optimize thermal limits and conserve battery power. The core logging engine executes uninterrupted in the background.

4. Airborne Operations

  • Automated Geofencing: As your aircraft cuts through the predefined airport geofences, the cloud engine logs your track and issues a digital card to your deck. Cockpit distraction is zero—there is no need to touch the device during flight.
  • Tactical Airmanship: Maintain separation from the virtual penalty zones detailed in your morning briefing. If pursuing the optional “Extra Card Gate,” navigate the narrow checkpoint lanes accurately to build a stronger card hand.

5. Shutdown & Scoring

  • Terminate Tracking: Once clear of the active runway at your final destination, open the app dashboard and press “Stop Tracking.”
  • Leaderboard Sync: Walk into the hangar base. Your precise track, penalty data, and final poker combinations are calculated live and projected directly on the master event display.
